Design notes:
Confident, experienced visual design is necessary
to produce an advanced state-of-the-art viable site using
the best possible blend of successful design and technology.
Before we start to develop a visual strategy it will be
necessary to obtain an overview of your projections.
Please make some directional notes.
Take time to decide on the purpose and main message of your
site. It's important to identify this from your own perspective
to ensure that this message is at the forefront of the design.
Visual design is only successful when it enhances the message
or mission of a website. It fails when the design competes
with this purpose. Many websites include technology that
is inappropriate for the message or purpose of the site.
Images taking too long to down-load or that are gratuitous
and don't enhance the meaning or message of the site are
also common. Also, it is very important to create a target
profile of your potential Site Visitors to identify what
type of equipment they might have. The version of browser,
platform, their physical limitations such as age, inexperience
or handicaps can also factor into a successful strategic
design approach.
A hierarchy of importance may be created through design
devices such as colour, type, position and scale. Make sure
the important points stand out, avoiding gratuitous design
- especially with animation. Anything that moves will typically
attract most attention. If you're going to attract attention,
do it with something important not something for mere decoration.
Colours outside of the browser-safe colour range can be
problematic on some end-user's systems. If you use browser-safe
colours on your illustration style images and hexadecimal
colour schemes, you can avoid many unwanted problems such
as dithering (dots in solid colours) and unexpected colour
shifting. It's also very important to pay attention to colour
combinations that enhance communication. Intensity &
contrast of colours can be very effective in calling attention
to specific/important points you may wish to emphasize.
